About Yoga Book Club
The idea of Yoga Book Club was born from a time when I was struggling in my personal life and trying really hard to work my way through it. I had picked up Brené Brown’s book Daring Greatly and was really moved by all of it's wisdom. It seemed to speak to all of my wounds and each time I read I felt strongly to move my body as a way of processing my thoughts and feelings. My yoga practice was already the way I connected my body, mind, and emotions and it seemed like a natural fit to use yoga, mediation, and breath work to feel my way through the book.
The piece I was missing was the support of a like-minded community. I knew I couldn’t be the only person to benefit from the combination of reading a book that encourages self growth and reflection and using a yoga practice to process what I was feeling. And thus, Yoga Book Club was born and along with it the community support aspect that I had felt was missing. Since it began, we have covered Daring Greatly twice, Brené Brown’s Rising Strong, and The Wisdom of the Enneagram twice. The class runs once a week for 5-6 weeks and is two hours long. We settle in, drink tea, discuss the assigned chapters, and then follow the discussion with yoga. It is both inspiring and humbling to witness a group of people stepping out of comfort zones and learning and growing from each other. When a safe space to share is provided it changes lives and builds lasting friendships and a deep feeling of being seen, heard, loved, and accepted. I am always on the lookout for new books to cover and new ways to grow and I am deeply touched by those who have shown up each time there is an offering of this class.
